Leilani-Hapu'u Nepenthes Nursery, located in the Puna district of the Big Island of Hawai'i since the early 1990s, has amassed the largest and most complete commercial collection of species and hybrid Nepenthes in the United States of America. Founder Samuel Estes has created over 500 new Nepenthes hybrids during the past 15 years. The main nursery is located at about 400 feet ASL in Pahoa, and is home to the lowland and intermediate plants, which enjoy the consistently warm to hot temperatures. The highland plants are nurtured farther up the slopes of Mauna Kilauea, at elevations of 2500 to 3500 feet ASL, where the night temperatures reach down into the 50s and 40s Fahrenheit.
In 2011 Sam partnered with Jeremiah Harris in Colorado to sell the most spectacular Nepenthes to the public.
